SUPPORT A LOCAL ARTIST IN NEED
Our dear friend and colleague Ian Welch is an elementary school art teacher, an award-winning printmaker, and one of the most generous creative forces in our community. Many of you know Ian through his teaching, his work at the Stanley Arts Center, his mentorship of young artists, or the quiet way he always shows up when help is needed.
This Thanksgiving, Ian received life-altering news: he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. In the midst of all this uncertainty, stress, and fatigue, Ian is trying to prepare for a previously scheduled solo exhibition, featuring more than 20 original works. The show is scheduled to open on January 8th at The Studios of Key West, one of the most respected contemporary art spaces in the country.
This exhibition is not just a personal milestone. It is a professional achievement years in the making, one which reflects positively on the high quality of art produced in our community and our region. Ian has given so much to his students and to this community. We are trying to help him with the expenses needed to make sure this important trip still happens. This is our opportunity to give something back in a way that is tangible, timely, and deeply meaningful.
If you are able to contribute, your donation will go directly toward:
• Housing & meals during the exhibition week
• Travel costs
• Offsetting lost income so Ian and his devoted partner Emily can focus on health, art, and togetherness with friends and colleagues at this challenging time.
Every contribution helps. So does sharing this message.
