GOVERNOR'S AWARD For the Arts

Our dear friend and colleague Ian Welch is an elementary school art teacher, an award-winning printmaker, and one of the most generous creative forces in our community. Many of you know Ian through his teaching, his work at the Stanley Arts Center, his mentorship of young artists, or the quiet way he always shows up when help is needed.

Here at Hampton Friends of the Arts, Inc. we are so proud and excited  to share the news that Ian is the 2026 special award winner of the South Carolina Governor's Award for the Arts. Please join us for the awards ceremony, including a short film about Ian's work here, at the Palmetto Theater.

The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 7 at 6pm in the Theater. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony next door at The Stanley Arts Center.
